From the Upper School Librarian, Mark Lawrence: Last week was Teen Read Week, the second at ISS since my arrival at the school. This year we were very pleased to host another irish poet and children's author Mathew Sweeney, and German fantasy Children's writer Astrid Nagel and have the Seiffert bookshop display some of their stock. ... Astrid Nagel, who hase previously worked in the Information Technology industry, was also able to make the important point that you can also be flexible in your approach by taking on another career to start with, and illustrated how her previous employment had helped her achieve success in her current career. Her series of novels (M.A.C) feature three friends who get sucked into a world of fantasy through a computer, a good counterbalance to Mathew's recent novel 'Fox' which illustrates a number of serious social issues such as homelessness, bullying in scool and familly upheaval. ...
